Haibo Liu

Haibo Liu is an Assistant Professor of Management at Keck Graduate Institute (KGI), a member of The Claremont Colleges, since 2023. Before joining KGI, Dr. Liu held an Assistant Professor position at UC Riverside.

Haibo graduated from the National University of Singapore with a First Class Honours degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering). Subsequently, he obtained a joint Master's Degree in Technological Design (Product Development) from the National University of Singapore and Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands. Haibo received his PhD from INSEAD (Singapore/France).
One stream of his research focuses on human capital and organizational learning, with the aim of aiding companies in cultivating a workforce that is more innovative and productive. His investigations have primarily been carried out in the context of inventors, CEOs, and Emergency Medical Service crew. His work has been published in Organization Science and Production and Operations Management. Haibo's research also focuses on organizational purpose, where he examines how organizations deal with multiple competing goals simultaneously, such as the tradeoff between financial and social dimensions. This line of work builds on prior literature in CSR, hybrid organizations, and social innovation. Dr. Liu has been actively advising and working with PhD students.

Dr. Liu has won the finalist of Best Student Paper Award in the Technology and Innovation Management Division and was nominated for the Carolyn Dexter Award at the Academy of Management Annual Conference. Haibo's paper has also won second place for the Best Conference Paper Prize at the SMS Special Conference in Oslo. His dissertation has earned honorable mention for the Best Dissertation Award in the Technology Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship Section at INFORMS Annual Meeting. Haibo is on the Editorial Board of Management and Organization Review, and serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Production and Operations Management, Research Policy, Information System Research.
