On Wednesday, President Mohamed Abousalem and members of KGI leadership welcomed Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger to campus to tour the institution and learn more about KGI’s programs.
Barger toured classrooms and labs within the Occupational Therapy Doctorate, Doctor of Pharmacy, and Chan Family Master of Science in Physician Associate Studies programs, meeting with faculty and students to learn more about KGI’s innovative programming that is educating the healthcare and biotechnology leaders of the future. Supervisor Barger’s district is home to nearly two million people, covers nearly 2,800 square miles and includes Claremont.
“Welcoming Supervisor Barger to campus is another major milestone in establishing strong relationships in our community as we continue to elevate the KGI brand in our local community and region,” said President Abousalem. “We look forward to working with Supervisor Barger to build connections within her district that enable KGI to share our expertise and bring our graduates to the regional healthcare system to uplift and heal our communities.”
Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program Ana Sanchez provided a hands-on tour of an Occupational Therapy space, providing samples of activities students would use when working with young children. A cohort of faculty and students from the Doctor of Pharmacy talked with Barger about the curriculum and opportunities KGI pharmacy students have to engage with and support the community. Master of Science in Physician Associate Studies Program Director Christy Eskes led Barger through the collaborative classrooms and lab areas where students study and engage in Objective Structured Clinical Examinations, also known as OSCE.
