Discovery and Development of the Anti-cancer Drug Gleevec for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) and other cancers August 2007 Each year, our first-year Master of Bioscience students undertake a team-based "Initial Project", in which they examine an important case in the life science industry during their first week at KGI. This Initial Project case examines the discovery and development of the anti-cancer drug Gleevec®, a breakthrough targeted anti-cancer therapy, which has transformed the prognosis for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Careers in the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Industry: Job Classifications and Hiring Needs of the Top Nine Companies Aug. 14, 2007 KGI graduate Helen Liu and KGI Professor and Director of Research Dr. Molly Schmid evaluated job opportunities at the top nine biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. The results indicated that 83.5% of job openings were non-research and development focused. This underscores the importance of preparing tomorrows life science leaders with both science and business skills.
